Tool to translate Joomla extensions

Translation data

Items are constituited by 3 elements:

  1. Key: unique identifier of the item
  2. Source text: information in the reference language
  3. Translation text: information in the target language

An opened source is editable by adding/removing/modifying keys and/or texts, while a loaded source becomes read-only.

N.B. To operate with translations, the source must be loaded, not opened.

How to:

Create a source file

  • Click the Source > New menu to create a new source
  • Select the source language from the Src. Lang. drop-down list

Modify a source file

  • Click the Source > Open... menu to select and open an existing source file

Save a source file

  • Click the Source > Save or the Source > Save as... menu to save the source file

Create a new translation file

  • Click the Source > Load... menu to select and load an existing source file
  • Click the Translation > New menu to create a translation file
  • Select the translation language from the Transl. Lang. drop-down list

Modify a translation file

  • Click the Source > Load... menu to select and load an existing source file
  • Click the Translation > Open... menu to select and open an existing translation file

Save a translation file

  • Click the Translation > Save or the Translation > Save as... menu to save the source file

Add an item to an opened source file

  • Click the add item button of the tool bar

Remove an item from an opened source file

  • Click the delete item button at the left of the item's key

Use Google Translator

That's useful to get a quick and automatic translation (to be refined).

  • Load a source file
  • Create a new translation or open an existing one.
  • Click the Tools > Google menu to open the Google T4J form.
  • Click the copy to clipboard button to copy the source content into the clipboard.
  • Click the go to google's translator website button to open the web browser.
  • In the Google webpage, paste (CTRL+V) the clipboard content to the left textbox.
  • Click the 'translate' button to get the automatic translation.
  • Scroll down the translation textbox in order to click the 'copy' icon button at the bottom of the right textbox to copy the translation content to the clipboard.
  • Go back to the Google T4J form and click the copy from clipboard button.
  • Click the update translation button.
  • Close the Google T4J form.
